What are personas?
Main Idea:
Focus on the individuals rather than groups
Promote empathy
Representation of users
Real people have limited abilities to be rep’d as people
Typically we think occupation but through Personas we can personify the roles who we try to cater to.
Great way of representing their clients with their products design
Presenting with individuals are more effective
Person Positivity Bias

Brain thinks about individuals more than groups of people
The Scope Severity Paradox: Why doing more harm is judged to be less harmful
We feel more strongly about individuals than groups

Behaviors...

Circumstances…
Personas are mockups of real people
Takes possibly a long time to create
Minimal Personas
Name, age, other details of real people..(ex. Sally, age 27)
Photo of a person doing a thing… why we are interested in them for product
Primary goals… why
What they want to achieve
Before and after interaction with our solution
Extended personas
Lifestyles, interests, and hobbies (More specific traits)
Personas should not have unpleasant characteristics
Design Research Personas: Research user communities including relevant information
Market research personas
Based usually from bigger companies to support design research personas.
Forget about demographics: not a motivating factor
1 and/or 2 primary personas needed: Split systems into parts -> specific to one person
Primary persona: Person who is involved
Secondary persona: not the people who we build the system for but who we involve in it.
Some companies might have only 1 persona
Should make sure that product must be accessible by those with disabilities
Recruits can be hired to give feedback and be inspirations for personas.
Personas can be presented through merchandise
